In the case of an 8-year-old girl who was initially found lifeless in the water during swimming lessons and successfully revived, the criminal police assume that it was an accident. The child will continue to be treated in the clinic, but there is no longer any acute danger to life, the police of Cleve (Lower Rhine) reported on Friday.

In addition, there are no indications of violation of supervisory duties by teachers or external influence. According to the status of the investigation into the causes of the accident, the eight-year-old child suffered from a previously unknown illness that could have rendered the girl unconscious in the water.

According to the police, two teachers initiated resuscitation measures on the child who suddenly swam out of breath during classes at the elementary school pool on Thursday morning. Then the girl was taken to the clinic by a rescue helicopter.

The causes of the accident were not clear at first. School social workers and victim advocates would look after classmates and notify the girl’s parents.
