Norwegian tennis player Kasper Ruud started the ATP finals with a victory. The 23-year-old football player won the opening match over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime: 7:6 (7:4), 6:4.

Rudd scored his first point after 1:51. This year, he reached the finals of both the French Open in Paris and the US Open in New York.

Auger-Aliassime was unable to build on his recent strong performances in Turin. The 22-year-old football player won the Florence, Antwerp and Basel tournaments and reached the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Paris.
